What Does Microneedling Involve?

Microneedling involves using a pen-like device with tiny needles to puncture the surface of the skin. These needles make very small puncture wounds which cause “trauma” to the dermis layer of skin. This forces the body to react by increasing natural proteins in the area, namely collagen, to help with healing.

Collagen is a compound that keeps your skin soft, smooth, and firm. As you age, your body naturally produces lower levels of these proteins – resulting in wrinkles and age spots. Acne and scarring can also cause your skin to lose these proteins and look unnatural and discolored.

We use your own growth factors to stimulate collagen and promote healing. Dr. Love and the trained team at Lifetime Dental Health have even “upped the ante” by adding PRF Platelet Rich Fibrin to the procedure! The results are fabulous!

Is Microneedling Painful?

About an hour before your session begins, Dr. Love and her team will apply a topical anesthetic to the area. Once your treatment begins, you will experience very little —if any—discomfort.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

It usually takes about three sessions for microneedling to take full effect. Each session usually takes about two hours. After your treatment, your face may be slightly red and agitated. This will not last for more than a few days and should not affect your ability to work or go to school.

Can I Use an At-Home Treatment?

There are a few over-the-counter microneedling treatments available. These usually include a hand-held roller lined with tiny needles. While the concept is the same, the needles barely puncture the skin, making these DIY options very ineffective. While it may seem like take-home treatment options could be less painful, the local anesthetic will keep you comfortable and relaxed throughout your visit.

What Is Involved in a Juvederm Treatment?

The Juvederm gel includes a weak anesthetic to help reduce any discomfort. However, we are also able to provide a variety of anesthetic options to make your treatment more comfortable.

This procedure takes less than an hour to complete and the results are visible immediately! Juvederm can last anywhere from 6 months to a year. Depending on the patient and their personal goals, we may recommend a follow-up visit to ensure your treatment lasts as long as possible.
