When it comes to what we can do for you at the dentist, we’re capable of far more than just oral care. Of course, dental hygiene and dental/oral procedures are our number one priority, but your overall well-being is just as important.
This is why we are pleased to offer our patients microneedling here at Lifetime Dental Health. Your looks are important to you, and there’s no shame to that game! After all, your self-confidence shines even more when you look in the mirror and see what you like. Just like improvements with your smile, we can take things up a notch for your skin.
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure we can do in-office, with little to no pain, and with dramatic, yet natural results. You will be impressed!
Read on to learn more about this amazing procedure, what is involved, and if it’s right for you.
What Is Microneedling?
People see or hear the word “needle” and they freak out. OK, that’s certainly understandable, but remember the “micro” part right before it. With tiny needles on a pen-like instrument, we puncture your skin right at the surface.
These tiny facial punctures prompt your skin to heal itself from the inside out, thus increasing the levels of collagen that rise to the occasion to repair it. These proteins soften and smooth the skin, plump it up, and firm those saggy areas. Just like the youthful skin of a younger person, as the collagen works its magic, your face looks fabulous.
Is Microneedling a Painful Procedure?
It could be if we did not use a topical anesthetic on your skin. Thankfully, we do. Approximately one hour before we get to work on your skin, we will apply this numbing agent so you won’t feel the pain. You may feel some pressure, but the anesthetic prevents you from feeling those little pricks puncture the surface. It will eventually wear off when we’re finished.
Most people see some redness on their skin after the procedure. This is expected and normal. It will simmer down after a day or two and will not prevent you from carrying on as you normally would. Keep the skin clean during this post-procedure time.
Is Microneedling a Long Process?
Each in-office microneedling session takes around two hours from start to finish. Most people need to come in for three of these two-hour sessions to get the results they are after. Each patient’s needs vary, so we will work with you to plan your unique microneedling journey.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Microneedling?
People who have unwanted wrinkles, dark or large age spots, large facial pores, acne scars, stretch marks, and blotches and blemishes are good candidates for this procedure. As the facial tissues hydrate due to increased collagen production while the skin heals, the skin tone improves, and these above issues become far less obvious, even gone for good. Since your own collagen is working to improve your skin, the process is particularly natural and nearly non-invasive.
We will not know if you are a good candidate until we see you for a consultation, but if you are dealing with any of the aforementioned issues, you’re on the right track.
Is In-Office Microneedling the Same Thing as What I Can Do at Home with a DIY Device?
While the premise is similar, the intensity is not the same. Those microneedling devices you see in stores or online may offer some improvement, but they cannot penetrate the skin’s surface like the microneedling we do here at Lifetime Dental Health. If you are interested in a real difference in your complexion, a professional approach is your best option.
Plus, you can never be completely sure about what you buy online or pick up off the shelf. You don’t want to damage your skin on the quest to make it look better. Seeing a professional is a smarter choice.
