    Preventive Dentistry in Columbus

    Preventive Dentistry

At Lifetime Dental Health, we believe prevention is the best medicine. Preventing dental issues saves you from having to suffer from extensive and costly procedures. That is why we offer preventative dental care right here in Columbus, Ohio!

Preventative dentistry involves procedures and personal habits that can help stop oral diseases such as tooth decay, periodontal disease, and other dental conditions from forming, progressing, and recurring. Taking steps to prevent these diseases can keep your oral health in shape and can save you from a lot of pain and inconvenience.

At Lifetime Dental Health, we will give you the tools to be prepared and will teach you about a variety of preventative treatments to keep your mouth happy and healthy. We proudly cover both in-office and at-home phases of preventative care.

    Where Do I Begin?

Prevention begins with an official evaluation from our skilled dental team. During this evaluation, Dr. Barry, Dr. Love, and other members of the team check for signs of various dental issues such as gum disease, tooth decay, and abnormalities in the bones and tissues. During the evaluation, we do our best to educate our patients on the ins and outs of proper dental hygiene. At the end of the evaluation, you will receive a preventative treatment plan to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

How Will I Know What to Do Next?

After examining your gums, teeth and overall oral health, our dental team will create a customized prevention program to best suit your needs. This plan typically involves creating a customized cleaning schedule, which could involve office visits every 3, 4, or 6 months.

You will also receive a take-home care kit. These kits include tongue scrapers, rubber tip stimulators, and a Sulcabrush. When used regularly, these aids can help maintain your dental health between appointments. If we suspect you are at risk of developing gum disease or cavities, we may also prescribe fluoride treatments.

What Will I Learn About Preventative Care?

Your oral health can be affected by a variety of things, from improper brushing techniques to poor hygiene habits. During our consultation, you will learn about topics such as:

    •   Nutrition Guidance
    •   Effects of Smoking On Oral Health
    •   Proper Brushing Technique, and
    •   Proper Flossing Technique.

What Other Services Do You Provide?

For those who actively participate in sports, we can create a customized mouth guard so you can throw yourself into the game without worrying about a dental injury. These mouth guards are custom-fitted by Dr. Barry or Dr. Love to provide the best protection possible.
