Do you ever wonder why we recommend cleanings, checkups, and exams twice a year? Surely if you brush and floss every day you won’t need to visit the dentist so often, right? Unfortunately, that just isn’t the case.
Coming in for a dental exam at least twice a year allows our skilled team to make sure your smile is in tip-top shape. During your visits, we are able to evaluate your risk for certain dental problems such as cavities and gum disease. If your oral health is neglected, it could mean more serious problems down the road.
What Do Dental Cleanings and Exams Involve?
At Lifetime Dental Health, we are able to provide a variety of services during exams, including:
· Oral cancer screenings
· Teeth cleaning
· Digital X-Rays
· Intra-oral photo tour of the mouth
· Removal of stains, plaque, and built-up tartar
· Periodontal probe readings
· Fluoride treatments, and
· A consultation with Dr. Barry or Dr. Love.
During your regular visit, your mouth, face, jaw, and neck will be examined for any sensitivity or irregularities. Your teeth will also be cleaned by one of our compassionate and highly-skilled hygienists.
After your cleaning, Dr. Barry or Dr. Love will provide a thorough visual examination to check for any cracked and decayed teeth, sores, and any other potential problems. Your dentist may also recommend an X-ray to check for any deeper health conditions.
Once your visit is finished, you will be given personalized instructions on how to care for your teeth.
By coming in for regular cleanings and exams, Lifetime Dental Health’s highly-trained professionals will be able to determine if you or a family member may be at risk for developing certain oral conditions. They will also be able to detect early signs of cavities, gum disease, tartar build-up, and other potential problems.
We are also able to detect more serious health problems such as the onset of oral cancer. With the help of Velscope technology, we are able to screen for signs of oral cancer. This will allow us to make an early diagnosis and set up a treatment plan right away.
Professional Whitening Services
During your cleaning, Dr. Barry or Dr. Love will be able to speak with you about professional fluoride treatments. If your teeth have been stained by tea, coffee, tobacco or anything else, our team can restore your bright, beautiful smile with a simple fluoride treatment or take-home whitening treatment.
If you think you may be at risk of developing cavities, our doctors can place dental sealants over your teeth to reduce the risk of decay. These dental sealants are made of plastic films and are placed over the top surface of molars and premolars. Sealants can be placed in one visit and are 100% effective in preventing cavities for up to 5-10 years.
